Reaching This Moment: Barack Obama Becomes President

This is such an historic event that it requires a Shehecheyanu:

Baruch atah Adonai Elohenu, melech ha'olam, shehehchehyanu vehkiyehmanu veh'heganu lazman hazeh.

Blessed are you Lord our God, king of the universe, who has kept us in life, sustained us, and brought us to this moment.

Grrrr--First Prop Eight, Now Marc & Cliff!

I am thoroughly disgusted. I'm still in shock that Proposition Eight passed in California... although my shock is giving way to bitter disappointment. Here's a heartfelt commentary from Keith Olbermann about this vote. (Thanks for the link, Melinda!) He has no personal stake in this issue, but he speaks passionately about standing up for love.

I haven't watched Keith Olbermann much, but I'll make a point of catching him from now on.
Meanwhile, there are rocky times ahead for Marc and Cliff on Ugly Betty. Ok, it's probably shallow of me to have this on the same post, but I'm heart-broken to think this relationship might be over. (And I'm starting to feel like there's no good gay news!)

Forgive him, Cliff! He was out of his head!

Clip of the Day~Empty Sky

In honor of 9-11, I've been listening to Springsteen's The Rising album today. My City of Ruins is probably my favorite song on it, even though it predates the album. (Bruce wrote it about Asbury Park, but it took on a new meaning after 9-11.)

But somehow, today, I kept coming back to this song instead. Yeah, we're still here--we survived. But the skyline is still painfully empty:

Picture of the Day--Remembering

I live just outside Manhattan, on the Jersey side. The skyline has always been an every-day part of my life. And, even after all these years, it still looks wrong without the towers.
My love to all those who lost someone on 9/11 and my thanks and admiration for all the tremendous acts of courage on that day.
