DeForest Kelley, 20 January 1920~11 June 1999
Ten years ago today DeForest Kelley passed on~and I think all Star Trek fans still miss him. His portrayal of Dr. McCoy still inspires me . . . if Bones could be such a good man even with that stubborn temper of his, maybe there's hope for me too! A special thank you to Julianna and Womanwarrior, who both pointed out DeKelley's yartzeit (the anniversary of his death) and this lovely memorial.

Caption Contest!
I love this screen shot--it's deceptively simple. What is Bones saying that has both Spock and Kirk turning toward him with such interest? I can't wait to find out...

Star Trek & The Cartwright Boys
Ok, this oughtta warm the heart of both Star Trek fans and Bonanza fans. This clip is from a special about the western tv show Bonanza. It highlights many of its famous gueststars, including three from the Enterprise: Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan and DeForest Kelley.
Best of all, De Kelley has a grand pre-Star Trek line. Ben Cartwright says to him, "Well, you're a doctor, aren't you?" And Kelley's character answers, "I'm not a doctor. I'm a condemned murderer."

Picture of the Day~A Favorite Shot of Bones
I kinda like Bones out of uniform. Although The Man Trap isn't one of my favorite Star Trek episodes, it does have the virtue of presenting Bones in just the black t-shirt...um, as opposed to the blue uniform shirt over the black t-shirt, that is:

~Clip of the Day: Old Friends~
Thanks, Peerie, for finding this! I remember when this commercial came out--we used to get so excited whenever it came on. Not excited enough to switch phone companies, lol, but still excited:

Picture of the Day--It Should've been just Spock and Bones
Here are Spock and Bones in the TOS episode All Our Yesterdays. The episode has everything a Spock-McCoy fan can ask for: the two guys are stranded on an alien planet, seeking shelter together against the bitter cold...

But it doesn't stay just the two of them. Sigh. No, a woman named Zarabeth shows up. And while I'm grateful to her for rescuing the guys, I can't help thinking that she spoils the fun. But that's what fan fic is for--this episode gets quite interesting in the What-Happened-Instead genre!

Pics of the Day~Spock & Bones adopt a kid and live happily ever after...
(A.K.A: My take on the Star Trek TOS episode Friday's Child.)
Yeah, I've got a bunch of pictures today. Why? Because I've finally got the hang of screen shots!
The first pic is, naturally, of Spock and Bones:
This next one is of a contrite Kirk--he's apologizing to Bones for chewing him out without cause:
And here's Bones with Eleen (who's played by Julie Newmar--yup, Catwoman.) She's not thrilled to be pregnant, but she's starting to like the doctor's tender care:

Spock, however, doesn't appreciate just how close the good doctor is getting to Eleen. (No, really. I'm not making this up.) It seems he wants McCoy all to himself, because he's looking mighty jealous:
Hey, what do you know? McCoy's embarrassed that Spock saw him holding Eleen's hand:
Ok, now Spock and Bones are over their little tiff and cooperating once more:
And here's McCoy's famous line: "I'm a doctor, not an escalator!" You tell 'em, Bones:

McCoy helps Eleen give birth to a healthy child. But she's still not keen on the whole 'Mommy' business, so she gives the child to McCoy and Spock to adopt:
Ok...jeez. The episode didn't quite end that way. But it should have!
But Spock really did repeat the words "Oochy-woochy-coochy-coo," after he heard Bones saying them to the kid. Ok, Spock didn't quite say them to the baby...he questioned Kirk instead, who (with an admirably straight face) referred him to linguistics.
Oh, and Eleen named the kid Leonard James, after Bones & Kirk--much to Spock's chagrin...

Now, if we didn't know better, doesn't this look like a perfect romantic moment between Mirror-Spock and Dr. McCoy? Sigh...

Clip of the Day~DeForest Kelley Introduces TNG (Duplicate Post--long story)
Yes...this is a duplicate post. Long story! I have two 'phantom' posts on my blog--you can see them sometimes but not always. So I'm reposting this, just as I reposted Lawful Obedience, Part Twenty.
But that's ok, right? DeForest Kelley is so utterly charming that he's always worth a second look:

Picture of the Day~Bones Squared
Here are some pics of Karl Urban, the actor who will play Dr. Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy in the upcoming Star Trek movie, and DeForest Kelley, who originated the role. I adore DeForest Kelley--but I've heard good things about Karl Urban. I just hope he lives up to the hype...

Clip of the Day--'Forget it, Bones'
In The Katra's Legacy I referred to the only other time that Spock called McCoy 'Bones.' Here's the scene, from an episode called The Tholian Web. (It also contains a rare apology from Bones to Spock!)

Clip of the Day
Another one of my favorite Star Trek scenes...again from Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. Everyone thinks poor McCoy has gone crazy with grief for Spock. But Kirk tells him that there's a reason for his strange behavior, and McCoy's reaction is...well, pure McCoy!
