The Romulan commander swallowed her disgust. She felt even more a fool now than when she first discovered Spock’s betrayal.

Perhaps she had, indeed, exchanged something more permanent with Spock than a mere military secret. But what did that matter? He was devoted to these terran officers who insisted on treating her with such gallantry. Yet he didn’t recognize his love for Kirk and McCoy. How could he? What did a Vulcan know of feelings?

She, on the other hand, understood her feelings painfully well. But now she must dismiss them as ruthlessly as any Vulcan--for her future’s sake.
