Laurie (The guy Jo should have married, if she married at all...)

As much as I like Christian Bale in serious, chiseled roles (and it sounds like Melvin Purvis from Public Enemies is one of those), I love him as Theodore Lawrence (aka Teddie or Laurie) in Little Women . He has his serious moments as Laurie, but it's a more light-hearted part:

He's so young and fragile in the rejection scene. And you know, Jo couldn't marry Laurie--she had an important date with Sarek! *argh*

Lol!

I've read that Alcott had intended for Jo to remain single, but her publishers pressured her into marrying Jo off. Alcott agreed--but her revenge, so to speak, was to marry her to anyone but Laurie.

=(

I can't find the reference to this off-hand, but I'll dig around for it.

P.S. I'd have been fine with Jo if she spurned Laurie to stay single (or engage in some steamy lesbian romance, lol.)

But I could never see her with Friedrick.

Meh.
