BTW--This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It's not forced, like the transporter scene. This one seems so natural. Spock allows himself one moment of weakness, then pulls himself together and asks everyone (through Uhura) to do the same.

Sucking face in the transporter room w/an audience doesn't seem in character to me--even if Spock is in love/lust w/Uhura.
Actually, the scene in front of Kirk could have played out just as effectively in a turbo-lift.
I'm still not convinced there's a torrid affair w/Uhura (despite my decades-long Mary Sueish fantasies). In "The Cage" younger Spock showed some emotions--like he was trying them on for size. The movie's romantic interludes could be the AU/alternate timeline version of that expermentation.
